Ski, snowboard, sunsets & Moonlights in the French Alps
La Plagne, Val d'Isère, Tignes , Méribel, Courchevel , Megève , Le Grand Bornand , Serre ChevalierPresentation
When you think of the most incredible sunsets you’ve ever seen, where are they? I bet you’ve most likely thought by the sea, ocean or a lake, maybe over the rolling hills of the countryside. These are places that anybody can go and everyone can see. Well, we have something even better, more incredible, and experienced only by a small number of people, something unique to us, but we’re happy to share it with you… This is the Oxygène Moonlight!
But what is it and why should we do it?
The Oxygène Moonlight’s name can be quite deceiving and could probably be called the Oxygène Sunset or the Oxygène Night Ski, but whatever the name, this is a unique experience not to be missed. Taking place in a number of our OSC ski resorts - Le Grand Bornand, La Plagne, Val d’Isère, Tignes, Courchevel, Meribel, Megeve and Serre Chevalier - you will 100% see the most beautiful views in the French Alps and create the best memories to last a lifetime…
Limited to a very small amount of lucky people, you’ll get to experience a fun mountain adventure to the top of a picturesque lookout point. Depending on your resort, you’ll make your way up via a chairlift, gondola, ski touring, snowshoes or even via an electric mountain bike. You’ll watch the sky change colour, from pinks and purples to darker blues, as the sun sets over the surrounding peaks. It really is sight for sore eyes.
After your evening mountain peak entertainment, the fun really starts. It’s now time to make your way back to the resort by either the light of the moon, a head torch provided by Oxygène, LED poles or in some cases as the sun is rising. Get ready for an experience like no other after the (natural) lights have turned off! Sounds kinda scary? Don’t worry, it’s not. You will always be accompanied by a professional Oxygène guide who has everything organised and the best routes mapped out for you.
What to expect and where…
La Plagne, where it all began
La Plagne is where it all started over 15 years ago. This is a full afternoon/evening out which includes a delicious dinner in a mountain restaurant. In fact, the chosen restaurant is Les Inversens, a notable place to stop off on the slopes during the day too. It has been said to also have some of the best views in the resort. To access the restaurant, you must already be a Level 2+ skier or snowboarder and comfortable on blue runs. Once you arrive take a warm seat with an aperitif and say goodbye to all the others who have to get off the slopes! Ha, it’s now you and your private mountain…
Val d'Isère, eMTB style
In Val d’Isère there are a few options but one of our favourite ways to see the sunset is by an electric mountain bike. First of all, going on an eMTB is already an experience, then when you add snow into the concept it becomes even ‘cooler’ (mind the pun). Finally, top it off with a beautiful sunset and you are literally shooting 3 birds with one stone.
Tignes, in a mountain refuge
This is the full shebang and a truly exceptional adventure that can be tailor-made to you and your level (as long as you are already able to ski and have a good level of fitness). Like the sound of this? An Oxygène guide will join you on an ascent to the Col du Palet at 2652 metres. Here you will enjoy fantastic views, a well-deserved fondue and an overnight stay in a refuge lost in the mountains. Get ready for a privatised early morning first run back to the resort, it's amazing! Contact us directly.
Courchevel & Meribel, fun, fresh air & aperitifs
Once the slopes have closed you can grab your ski-touring skis and explore with a professional guide our secret paradise in the Three Valleys. Your arrival at the top of the mountain peak is perfectly timed with the sunset. Get ready to taste a local selection of cheese and saucisson before heading back to your resort. Exactly what a Savoyard doctor orders… fun, fresh air, exercise, mountain sunsets and a delicious aperitif (wink, wink).
Serre Chevalier, igloo, yurt or restaurant
A snowshoe evening out like no other! In Serre Chevalier, this Moonlight experience includes a delicious local cheese raclette in either a mountain yurt, an igloo or a restaurant. The choice is yours… It’s fun for all the family and something that you’ll be talking about in years to come.
Megeve, local wine, cheese & charcuterie
Megeve is known for its high-end products, this is why this Moonlight ski touring session includes an aperitif with a selection of top-regional products including wine, local cheese and charcuterie. You’ll be guided to the top of a beautiful mountain lookout point, and watch the sunset over the valley while degusting delicious treats. You’ll then ski back under the starry sky and moonlight.
Le Grand Bornand, snowshoeing & LED poles
If you thought it was not possible to create yet another unique Moonlight concept in our mountains, well you’re wrong! In Le Grand Bornand we have an evening snowshoe walk to the top of a mountain restaurant Le Chalet Venay. Once here, enjoy the multicolour sunset on the surrounding mountain peaks and then tuck into a tasty fondue - some have even said this is the best fondue in Le Grand Bornand! On your way back to the resort, you’ll be guided by the light of special futuristic LED poles, and of course a professional mountain guide.
So, what are you waiting for? Book yourself onto one of these fantastic Moonlight/Sunset/Night adventures (whatever you prefer to call it). You will definitely not regret it…
