The villages
Briançon is the highest fortified city in Europe. Its exceptional cultural and religious heritage takes you back to the past so you can discover the fortifications of Vauban - a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is unique and a perfect opportunity to see wonderful European mountain military architecture.
Saint Chaffrey – Chantemerle is located in the centre of the valley overlooking Briançon on one side and La Salle Les Alpes and Monêtier on the other. Full of plenty of history and traditions, this village is in the heart of the ski area. The Guisane river passes by making it perfect for summer water sports enthusiasts.
La Salle Les Alpes – Villeneuve founded in 1118, is a family-friendly village. It is an ideal spot to enjoy a calm mountain holiday, both in the summer and the winter.
Monêtier les Bains is the highest village of the Serre Chevalier. You can enjoy the Grands Bains du Monêtier. These natural thermal baths have been used for years and were originally found by the Romans in the 4th century. There is a fun 'thermo centre' that you can enjoy all year round too, allowing access to naturally heated indoor and outdoor pools.
Serre Chevalier will delight young and old alike! Take a walk through the forests, explore the different villages and look out for typical mountain animals like marmots, chamois, owls, eagles and ibexes... If you enjoy nature and history, you will certainly find plenty of this in Serre Chevalier.
The ski area
The 410-hectare ski area of Serre Chevalier is among the largest in Europe. You can explore all of its 81 ski slopes and 59 ski lifts, including the famous Serre Chevalier cable car - the longest cable car in Europe, created in 1935.
Each village has direct access to the ski area, and what’s even better is Oxygène ski school offers both group and private ski and snowboard lessons throughout the resort. You can learn a new skill or improve your technique, discover the resort with a guide or enjoy a fun-filled lesson as a family, you'll find something for everyone with Oxygène in Serre chevalier.
Local life and activities
Whatever you want after a day on the mountains, Serre Chevalier has it! Perfect for outings with family or friends. There is plenty of year-round evening (and day) activities to do including restaurants, bars, a casino, a cinema and a theatre.
In winter, take advantage of activities such as cross-country skiing, ski touring and even night skiing. If you are wanting a change from skiing, try a dog sledge ride, go hiking or enjoy a snowshoe adventure. There is even a giant zip line for the thrill-seekers!
