Celebrating a magical Christmas in the mountains!

Jingle bells, jingle bells... Decorations are springing up everywhere, Mariah Carey is echoing in all directions and the smell of hot chocolate is tantalising. It's official, we're entering the festive holiday season with Rudolph and his friends. But, the question is, will Christmas be white this year for you? Well, yes if you choose a ski holiday in the French Alps with OSC, it will be white and even more magical than you can ever imagine.

I am going to let you into a secret, I love this holiday season and it really is special here in the French Alps. How is it so different, I hear you ask? Let me start...

First of all the setting... it feels like you are in a Christmas movie. The snow-covered trees, the twinkling lights, the music and entertainment in all directions, and of course the endless supply of papillotes (traditional French Christmas chocolates) everywhere you turn. The fact that the majority of people are also on holiday creates an even more joyful vibe, one which is simply contagious.

There are plenty of activities to do too, and of course, Santa Claus is the undisputed star of the show! With the build-up to the 25th, you'll find him popping up on a sleigh, sometimes pulled by horses, sometimes dogs or reindeer, and sometimes he even chooses to come on skis, a snowboard or even as a paraglider. Children love it and it's like a game of 'Where's Wally'. When you do find him, he dishes out sweets to the ones who have been good!
Some ski resorts have even created their very own events around the end-of-year celebrations, such as in Megève. At the beginning of December, they celebrate the lighting up of their massive Christmas tree in the heart of the resort, on the Place de l'Eglise. A truly unique atmosphere and one that lasts until the beginning of January.

Le Grand Bornand, a traditional mountain village also treats its end-of-year holidaymakers to plenty of magic by transforming into a beautiful Christmas village. You can watch live Gospel concerts and a nativity show, with various Christmas market stands including one to take photos with “you know who”!

And we can't forget about the magic of La Plagne! La Plagne is the perfect ski resort for families, especially those with children. You can find workshops for creating Christmas baubles, an elf parade, a reindeer ball, visits to Santa's house, a Christmas market and a Santa sleigh tour around the ski domain where he visits all the different La Plagne villages.

No matter what, wherever you go, there's so much going on! In all the ski resorts you can also enjoy torchlight descents and firework displays while sipping a vin-chaud (mulled wine). Make sure you wrap up warm!
Christmas is not Christmas without a Christmas dinner, and you can choose however you want to do this, in your chalet, apartment, hotel or at a restaurant. Make sure you book though as it can be busy. In France, they often celebrate on the evening of the 24th. So depending on where your priorities lie you can do this too. This means on the 25th you can give yourself the perfect present... a full day skiing or snowboarding!

As I said before, I truly love Christmas, but more than anything I love sharing this time with my family and friends! We also have our little traditions... a snowman with a Santa hat, a sledging race, team snowball fights (young against old... yes I know... it's not nice, but the hardest about this rule is when you have to change teams!), and of course skiing, every day, and lots of it!
Whatever resort you choose, you can't go wrong as everything is magical while celebrating Christmas in the mountains.
