Presentation
For many years, Oxygène Ski has been committed to making skiing accessible to everyone. In 2000, Oxygène ski & snowboard school created their fantastic Adaptive Ski programme, allowing people with reduced mobility or specific needs to enjoy sliding on the snow like everyone else.
All adaptive ski sessions are tailor-made according to your ability, wants and needs. All Oxygène instructors are kind, patient, extremely well qualified, very professional and lots of fun. Every year Oxygène training sessions are provided for all instructors specialising in adaptive skiing, updating them with the latest teaching techniques and new equipment.
Equipment
Oxygène has a selection of Tessier sit skis and other adapted equipment (stabilisers and radio headsets for the visually impaired) that you can rent during your week away in the French Alps. For more information contact our team directly.
Sit-skiing
The sit-ski is ideal for people with lower-limb coordination difficulties or wheelchair users. The aim is to learn how to sit-ski with maximum independence on the slopes.
The piloted Dualski
The piloted Dualski is ideal for people who are partially or totally dependent. The dual-ski consists of a comfortable seat, chassis and a steering bar. This seat allows the skier to slide on the snow knowing there is someone else in control if needed. The accompanying skier is on their own skis, and they will help pilot and guide the dual-ski around the slopes. Oxygène also offers training sessions teaching how to pilot a dual ski correctly.
Stand up adaptive skiing
These are for anyone who can stand on one or two legs and have good coordination skills. There are several adaptive stand-up skiing techniques, and Oxygène will offer the best one adapted to your handicap. For example, visually impaired, hard of hearing, amputee… no matter what, the session will always be tailor-made to you.
The tandem ski
If you cannot ski or do not want to ski, the Tandem ski is for you! You will be seated comfortably in a bucket seat while an Oxygène guide pilots you around the mountain. The Oxygene tandem ski is Tessier's TandemFlex. The main difference between a tandem ski and the piloted dualski is that the person piloting is connected directly to the tandem via their feet being on the same skis. This s for full control at all times.
The added bonus of Oxygene
Did you know all Oxygène instructors speak French and English, meaning they can share their passion with as many people as possible! They also have instructors who speak other languages too. Contact us for more information or to request an instructor in your native language.
Adaptive ski lessons are available in La Plagne, Belle Plagne, Courchevel, La Tania, Grand Bornand, Méribel, Tignes and Val d’Isère.
